SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Guarding, Ventilation & Disconnects (Part 3) ⚡
Mechanical protection, enclosure ventilation clearances, remote lockable disconnects, and indoor dry-type spacing—let's review Sections 450.10 through 450.22! 👇
SLIDE 2 (GUARDING, VENTILATION & DISCONNECTS)
Safeguarding and Controlling Transformers:
Enclosures & Guarding: Dry-type transformers require noncombustible, moisture-resistant cases protecting against foreign object insertion, with operating voltage clearly marked.
Disconnecting Means: Transformers require a disconnecting means located within sight or in a remote location that is lockable open per Section 110.25 and field-marked on the transformer.
SLIDE 3 (INDOOR & OUTDOOR DRY-TYPE RULES)
Combustible Material Clearances (450.21):
112.5 kVA or Less: Indoor dry-type transformers of this size require at least 300 mm (12 in.) of separation from combustible material (unless completely enclosed with ventilating openings).
Over 112.5 kVA: Individual dry-types exceeding 112.5 kVA must be installed in a fire-resistant transformer room with a minimum 1-hour fire rating (unless equipped with Class 155 or higher insulation and proper barriers).
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: If your remote transformer disconnect is out of line-of-sight, remember it must be lockable in the open position per 110.25 and clearly labeled right on the transformer housing!
