⚡ NEC Quick Hit: RV 120V Systems & Receptacles (Part 3) ⚡
GFCI protection, unique RV plug configurations, and panelboard clearances—let's review Sections 551.40 through 551.46! 👇
SLIDE 2 (RECEPTACLE SPACING & GFCI RULES)
Outlets and Protection:
The 6-Foot Spacing Rule: Receptacles must be installed at wall spaces 600 mm (2 ft) wide or more so no point along the floor line is over 1.8 m (6 ft) from an outlet. Face-up receptacles in countertops are prohibited.
Mandatory GFCIs: Required adjacent to bathroom lavatories, kitchen countertop surfaces within 1.8 m (6 ft) of sinks or lavatories, shower/tub areas, and on the vehicle exterior.
SLIDE 3 (PANELBOARDS & SUPPLY CORDS)
Access and Power Entry:
Panelboard Accessibility: Must be in a readily accessible location with dedicated working clearance (min 600 mm / 24 in. wide, 750 mm / 30 in. deep) when the RV is in setup mode.
RV-Specific Plugs: The 30-ampere RV plug configuration is a unique configuration specifically designed for recreational vehicles, distinct from standard NEMA 5-30 configurations.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Grounding Monitor Interrupters (GMIs) are mandatory on 30- and 50-amp RV feeders to monitor and interrupt power if the grounding conductor is lost or energized!
