Now we're moving into the general requirements for service equipment itself.
Energized service equipment parts must be enclosed against accidental contact or appropriately guarded under the applicable requirements.
Barriers help prevent accidental contact with energized ungrounded busbars and terminals during servicing.
Service equipment receives identification such as:
"Suitable for use as service equipment"
or
"Suitable ONLY for use as service equipment."
Required service surge protection applies to specified occupancies, including certain dwelling-unit and sleeping-area applications.
The required SPD is:
Type 1 or Type 2
with a minimum nominal discharge current rating of:
10 kA
The requirement also applies in specified service-equipment replacement situations.
What's the minimum nominal discharge current rating for a required service SPD?
Answer: 10 kA.
Service equipment isn't simply:
"The main panel."
