Slide 1 — Hook "Shortest Part in the article! Quick episode covering how service raceways and enclosures get connected."
Slide 2 — 270.80 & 270.84
270.80: Metal enclosures/raceways for service conductors connect to the grounded conductor (if the system is grounded) or the grounding electrode conductor (if ungrounded). Exception: metal components isolated by 18"+ of cover in an underground nonmetallic raceway run don't need this connection.
270.84: Underground service cable/raceway sheaths or armor that are already connected to the grounded conductor on the SUPPLY side don't need a separate connection at the building — and can be insulated from interior metal raceways/piping.
Slide 3 — 270.86 Other conductor enclosures/raceways
Non-service metal enclosures/raceways connect to the equipment grounding conductor.
Exceptions: certain short additions to existing open-wire/NM cable installations (under 25 ft, no probable contact with ground/metal, guarded from contact); short protective sections of raceway/enclosure; and metal components isolated by 18"+ of cover in nonmetallic raceway, or encased in 2"+ of concrete.
Slide 4 — Quiz + CTA Q: "Metal enclosures and raceways for SERVICE conductors connect to which conductor if the system is grounded?" A) The equipment grounding conductor B) The grounded conductor C) An impedance grounding conductor D) No connection required
✅ Answer: B — 270.80: connect to the grounded conductor for grounded systems (or the GEC if ungrounded).
