SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Office Furnishings (Part 1 - Scope & Partitions) ⚡
Cubicle wiring, modular office partitions, and integrated workstation power systems—welcome to Article 605! Let's break down the scope and the strict floor-to-ceiling partition rules. 👇
SLIDE 2 (SCOPE & WHAT'S COVERED) Modular Office Power:
Covered Systems: Electrical equipment, lighting accessories, and wiring systems contained within or attached to office furnishings (partitions, modular desks, and interconnected workstations).
Not Covered: Individual, unpowered office furniture like standalone chairs, standard freestanding desks, and independent shelving units.
SLIDE 3 (THE FLOOR-TO-CEILING PARTITION RULE) Height Restrictions for Wired Partitions:
No Full Height: Wired office partitions shall not extend from floor to ceiling.
Exception: Where permitted by the AHJ, relocatable wired partitions are allowed to extend to the ceiling, but they must not penetrate it!
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Under Section 605.4, all conductors and connections inside office furnishings must be fully contained within metal or suitable wiring channels free of sharp projections that could damage cable insulation.
