Bends, Securing, Couplings & Construction — Article 356 Complete!
SLIDE 1 — Bends & Trimming (356.24, 356.28)
🔄 MANUAL BENDING PERMITTED
Bends can be made manually, no auxiliary equipment needed. Bend radius per Chapter 9, Table 2, "Other Bends" column. Max 360° total bends per run between pull points.
✂️ Trimming: cut ends trimmed INSIDE AND OUTSIDE to remove rough edges.
SLIDE 2 — Securing & Supporting (356.30)
🛠️ FOUR DISTINCT SCENARIOS
1️⃣ Lengths exceeding 6 ft: secured at intervals NOT exceeding 3 ft (900mm), AND within 12 in. (300mm) on EACH side of every box/cabinet/fitting
2️⃣ No securing/support required where: fished, installed in lengths ≤3 ft at flexibility-required terminals, OR ≤6 ft from a luminaire terminal for tap conductors (410.117(C))
3️⃣ Horizontal runs through framing member openings — intervals ≤3 ft, secured within 12 in. of termination points
4️⃣ No securing/support required for lengths ≤6 ft from last secure point, connecting within an accessible ceiling to luminaires/equipment
📌 Listed LFNC fittings CAN serve as the means of support. Cable ties used MUST be listed for the application.
SLIDE 3 — Couplings & Connectors (356.42)
🔗 FITTINGS MUST BE LISTED FOR LFNC SPECIFICALLY
ONLY fittings LISTED for use with LFNC are permitted. Angle connectors CANNOT be used in CONCEALED raceway installations. Straight LFNC fittings ARE permitted for direct burial or concrete encasement.
SLIDE 4 — Construction & Marking + Final Exam Question
🏗️ CONSTRUCTION (356.100)
LFNC-B prewired manufactured assemblies must be provided in continuous lengths, capable of being shipped in a coil/reel/carton without damage.
🏷️ MARKING (356.120)
LFNC marked at least every 2 ft (600mm) per 110.21 — including type designation (per Article 100's LFNC definition) and trade size. Outdoor/direct-burial-intended conduit MUST be marked as such.
For prewired manufactured assemblies: type, size, AND quantity of conductors identified via a printed tag/label on EACH end plus the carton/coil/reel. Enclosed conductors marked per 310.8.
🎉 That's a wrap on Article 356 — Liquidtight Flexible Nonmetallic Conduit!
