Slide 1 — Hook "Finishing physical damage protection — access panels, roof decking, shallow grooves, insulating fittings, and structural joints."
Slide 2 — 300.6(C), (D), (E)
(C) Cables behind access panels just need normal support per their applicable wiring method article — no special extra rule.
(D) Cables/raceways running PARALLEL to framing members/furring strips: keep at least 1¼" from the nearest edge where nails/screws could hit — or protect with a 1/16" steel plate/sleeve if that distance can't be maintained (metal raceway exemption applies; fishing cable in finished walls is also allowed as an alternative).
(E) Under roof decking: maintain at least 1½" separation from the lowest surface of the decking; NEVER install concealed wiring in metal-corrugated sheet decking roofs. Exceptions for RMC/IMC, decking topped with 2"+ concrete, or wiring encased in 2"+ concrete.
Slide 3 — 300.6(F), (G), (H)
(F) Shallow grooves (to be covered by wallboard/siding/paneling/carpet): protect with a 1/16" steel plate/sleeve OR maintain 1¼" free space the full length of the groove.
(G) Fittings for 4 AWG+ insulated conductors entering a cabinet/box/enclosure: need a smoothly rounded insulating surface via identified fitting, listed rounded-edge metal fitting, identified insulating material, or integral threaded hubs/bosses. Insulating bushings made ENTIRELY of insulating material can't be used to actually secure the fitting/raceway.
(H) Structural joints: raceways crossing an expansion/contraction/deflection joint need a listed expansion/deflection fitting or other approved means.
Slide 4 — Quiz + CTA Q: "What's the minimum required separation between wiring installed under roof decking and the lowest surface of that decking (general rule)?" A) 1 in. B) 1½ in. C) 2 in. D) 3 in.
✅ Answer: B — 300.6(E): at least 1½" (38 mm) separation.
