⚡ NEC Quick Hit: DC Disconnects & Safety Labels (Part 2) ⚡
Readily accessible disconnects, 240V series segmentation, dwelling emergency switches, and notification labels—let's check Section 480.7! 👇
SLIDE 2 (DISCONNECTING MEANS & VOLTAGE SEGMENTATION)
Isolating the Battery System:
Disconnect Requirements: A readily accessible disconnecting means within sight of the battery must be provided for all ungrounded conductors derived from a stationary battery over 60 volts DC.
Series Circuit Segmentation: Battery circuits exceeding 240 volts dc between conductors or to ground must have provisions to disconnect series strings into segments not exceeding 240 volts dc for servicing.
SLIDE 3 (DWELLING EMERGENCY DISCONNECTS & NOTIFICATION)
Exterior Switches and Field Markings:
Dwelling Emergency Switch: For one- and two-family dwellings, a stationary battery disconnect must be located at a readily accessible location outside the building, labeled "EMERGENCY DISCONNECT".
Required Notifications: Disconnecting means must feature field markings displaying nominal battery voltage, available fault current, calculation date, and arc-flash labels (where applicable).
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: For commercial battery setups over 60V dc, ensure your disconnect is within sight and clearly marked with available fault current data and arc-flash ratings!
