SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Luminaire Supports & Wiring (Part 2) ⚡
Weight limits, metal light poles, grounding exposed metal, and row-mounted raceways—let's check Sections 410.20 through 410.64! 👇
SLIDE 2 (SUPPORTS & METAL POLES)
Keeping Fixtures Secure:
Weight Limits: Luminaires weighing over 3 kg (6 lb) or exceeding 400 mm (16 in.) in dimension cannot be supported by the screw shell of a lampholder.
Metal Light Poles: Poles must feature wet-location handholes (at least 2 in. x 4 in.), an internal grounding terminal, and proper bonding for hinged bases.
Suspended Ceilings: Lay-in and surface-mounted luminaires must be securely fastened to ceiling framing members by mechanical means or listed clips.
SLIDE 3 (GROUNDING & RACEWAY USAGE)
Bonding and Continuous Rows:
Exposed Metal Grounding: Exposed conductive surfaces on luminaires must be connected to an equipment grounding conductor (EGC) unless double-insulated.
Luminaires as Raceways: Continuous rows of connected luminaires can house conductors for a 2-wire or multiwire branch circuit supplying the row without needing a separate raceway listing.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Always verify that suspended ceiling fixtures are mechanically secured to the grid with listed clips or wires—relying solely on drop-ceiling tiles for luminaire support will result in an immediate inspection failure!
