SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Boilers, Insulating Fluids & Vaults (Part 4) ⚡
Electrode boiler safety, oil-filled equipment rules, 3-hour vault construction, and panic hardware exit doors—let's finish Article 495! 👇
SLIDE 2 (ELECTRODE BOILERS & INSULATING FLUIDS)
Boiler Protection and Fluid Volumes:
Boiler Supply & Grounding: Electrode boilers require a 3-phase 4-wire solidly grounded wye system, common-trip fault-interrupting devices, ground current detection, and an insulated grounded neutral conductor connected to the pressure vessel.
Insulating Fluids (>10 gal): Equipment containing more than 38 L (10 gal) of insulating fluid must comply with strict indoor vault requirements or outdoor containment dikes and fire safeguards.
SLIDE 3 (EQUIPMENT VAULT CONSTRUCTION)
Building High-Voltage Vaults (Part VII):
3-Hour Fire Rating: Vault walls and roofs require a minimum 3-hour fire resistance rating (or 1-hour if protected by an automatic fire suppression system).
Floors and Sills: Floors must be concrete at least 100 mm (4 in.) thick, and door sills must be at least 100 mm (4 in.) high to contain oil spills.
Egress Hardware: Personnel doors must open at least 90 degrees in the direction of egress and feature listed panic or fire exit hardware.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: When designing equipment vaults for oil-filled gear holding over 10 gallons of fluid, ensure your containment sills are at least 4 inches high and exit doors open outward with panic hardware!
