SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Directories & SCCR Ratings (Part 2) ⚡
Legible circuit directories, feeder source labeling, and available fault current field markings—let's check Sections 408.4 through 408.6! 👇
SLIDE 2 (CIRCUIT DIRECTORIES & FEEDER IDENTIFICATION) Clear Labeling Mandates:
Circuit Directories: Every circuit in a switchboard, switchgear, or panelboard must have a legible, permanent description that is specific to its purpose and unlikely to confuse (no generic labels like "lights").
Source of Supply: Equipment supplied by a feeder in other than 1- or 2-family dwellings must be permanently marked with the physical location and identification of its power origin using a non-handwritten method.
SLIDE 3 (SHORT-CIRCUIT CURRENT RATINGS - SCCR) Calculating and Marking Fault Current:
SCCR Minimum: Switchboards, switchgear, and panelboards must have a short-circuit current rating not less than the available fault current.
Field Markings: The available fault current at line terminals, the calculation date, and the installed OCPD SCCR must be field marked on the enclosure in a readily accessible location.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Always verify that your available fault current calculation date and magnitude are permanently labeled on the panelboard exterior—inspectors check these labels strictly during rough and final inspections!
