SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Battery Support & Room Environments (Part 3) ⚡
Grounding racks, electrolyte-resistant stands, hydrogen ventilation, and panic hardware egress—let's review Sections 480.8 through 480.10! 👇
SLIDE 2 (GROUNDING & CORROSIVE SUPPORTS)
Bonding and Structural Integrity:
Grounding Equipment: Conductive battery stands, racks, cabinets, or cases must be grounded.
Electrolyte Resistance: Supporting structures for batteries with corrosive electrolytes must use nonconducting support members or continuous insulating materials (paint alone is prohibited).
SLIDE 3 (VENTILATION, CLEARANCES & EGRESS)
Room Safety and Airflow:
Diffusion and Ventilation: Appropriate provisions must be made for diffusion and ventilation of gases (like hydrogen) to prevent explosive mixture accumulations.
Egress Doors: Personnel doors into battery rooms must open at least 90 degrees in the direction of egress and feature listed panic or fire exit hardware.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Never rely on paint alone to insulate metal battery stands from corrosive electrolytes—use approved nonconducting support members and ensure adequate high-level ventilation for hydrogen dispersion!
