Slide 1 — Hook "Closing out Part II — everything that has to be printed on medium-voltage cable, and separately, on the joints/terminations that connect it."
Slide 2 — 315.16 Marking for Type MV cables/conductors
Required info: max rated voltage, type letter(s), manufacturer identification, and AWG size/circular mil area.
Methods: surface marking (durable, size repeated every 24", other info every 40"); marker tape running the full length inside metal-covered multiconductor cables; tag marking (printed tag on the reel) for metal-covered single-conductor cables; and an optional allowance to mark wire size directly on individual conductors within multiconductor Type MC cable.
Optional markings can flag special characteristics — limited smoke, sunlight resistance, etc.
Slide 3 — 315.17 Marking for cable joints, terminations & connectors
Required info is MORE detailed than cable marking: max/nominal rated voltage, the wire/cable type letter(s) it's listed for use with, manufacturer ID, the conductor size (or size RANGE) it's listed for, and the cable outer diameter size/range it fits. Connectors additionally need: manufacturer's catalog number, conductor size/die number, and the conductor material(s) it's designed for — marked on BOTH the connector itself and its smallest packaging container.
Methods: surface marking, OR a durably printed tag/label field-applied to the joint/termination/connector or the cable where it's installed.
Optional markings for special characteristics are allowed here too.
Slide 4 — Quiz + CTA Q: "A connector's required marking must appear on the connector itself AND where else?" A) Nowhere else is required B) The unit container (smallest packaging) C) Only the installation manual D) Only a separate compliance certificate
✅ Answer: B — 315.17(A)(6): the marking must also appear on the unit container.
