SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Cable Bundling & Direct Organ Fastening (Part 3) ⚡
Can you fasten control cables directly to wood millwork without insulating supports? Do organ splices require junction boxes? Let's check out Sections 650.7(C) through 650.8! 👇
Bundling Organ Conductors:
Cabled Conductors: Organ console and organ section conductors must be cabled (except inside the organ proper).
Flame Resistance: Outer coverings must be resistant to flame spread (passing UL 2594/VW-1 flame tests) or wrapped with a closely wound, listed fireproof tape when not installed in metal raceway.
Relaxed Structural Support Rules:
Direct Fastening: Cables and control equipment are permitted to be attached directly to the organ wood structure without insulating supports.
No Boxes Required: Splices on pipe organ control wiring do not require junction boxes or enclosures!
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Even though low-voltage organ control splices don't need outlet boxes, abandoned cables that aren't terminated at equipment must still be tagged with a durable identification marker for future maintenance tracing!
