SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Panel SCCR & Multiple Sources (Part 2) ⚡
Available fault current documentation, SCCR thresholds, and multiple power source warning labels—let's check Sections 409.22 through 409.30! 👇
SLIDE 2 (SHORT-CIRCUIT CURRENT RATING - SCCR)Containing Internal Faults:
SCCR Threshold: An industrial control panel shall not be installed where the available fault current exceeds its marked short-circuit current rating (SCCR).
Mandatory Documentation: Available fault current calculations and the calculation date must be documented and made available to inspectors and maintenance personnel.
SLIDE 3 (MULTIPLE SOURCES OF SUPPLY)Warning Service Technicians:
Disconnect Identification: All sources of supply operating at 50 volts or more must be clearly marked or documented to identify their disconnecting means.
Multiple Disconnect Warning: If fed by more than one source requiring multiple disconnects, panels must display a permanent label reading: "WARNING — MULTIPLE DISCONNECTING MEANS REQUIRED TO DE-ENERGIZE ALL SOURCES OF SUPPLY 50 VOLTS OR MORE".
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Never install an industrial control panel without verifying that its SCCR equals or exceeds the available fault current at the service or feeder tap—an under-rated panel can catastrophically fail during an arc flash!
