SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Welding Cable & Dedicated Cable Trays (Part 4) ⚡
Can you use flexible welding cable as general building wire? What special rules apply when routing welding cables through dedicated trays? Let's finish Article 630! 👇
SLIDE 2 (FLEXIBLE WELDING CABLE RESTRICTIONS) Not Building Wire:
Fine Stranding: Listed welding cable features fine stranding for manual flexibility, but it cannot be used as general building wire for 1000V or less circuits unless it holds dual building wire ratings.
Flame-Retardant: Insulation on secondary welding circuit conductors must be flame retardant.
SLIDE 3 (DEDICATED WELDING CABLE TRAY RULES) Strict Tray Installation Standards:
Support Intervals: Cable trays used exclusively for welding cables must support cables at intervals not greater than 150 mm (6 in.).
Mandatory Signage: A permanent sign must be attached to the cable tray at intervals not greater than 6.0 m (20 ft) reading: 👉 "CABLE TRAY FOR WELDING CABLES ONLY"
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Duty:
Inspectors will strictly verify your welding cable tray labeling. Posting the required "CABLE TRAY FOR WELDING CABLES ONLY" signs every 20 feet ensures nobody accidentally lays standard building wire into a dedicated high-amp secondary tray!
