BRANCH-CIRCUIT VOLTAGE LIMITATIONS
Article 265 deals with circuits above:
1000V ac
or
1500V dc
But 265.6 gives us an important condition.
Circuits exceeding those nominal voltage thresholds can supply utilization equipment when:
maintenance and supervision conditions ensure that only qualified persons service the installation.
This isn't simply:
“It's over 1000V, so it's okay.”
The installation must have conditions of:
MAINTENANCE + SUPERVISION
that ensure:
QUALIFIED PERSONS ONLY
service the installation.
That's the kind of condition an exam question can hide inside the wording.
A circuit exceeds 1000 V AC nominal.
Under 265.6, what condition is important for supplying utilization equipment?
A. Anyone may service it
B. Only apprentices may service it
C. Maintenance and supervision must ensure qualified persons service it
D. It must always be limited to 120V
