SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Vertical Runs & Grounding (Part 3 - Article 772) ⚡
How do you support fire-resistive cables running up a multi-story shaft? What wire do you use for the equipment grounding conductor? Let's check out Section 772.5(G) and 772.60! 👇
SLIDE 2 (VERTICAL SUPPORTS & LISTED SPLICES) Risers & Joint Rules:
Vertical Support: Cables in vertical raceways must be supported per the system listing and Section 720.19 requirements.
No Field-Jury Rigged Splices: Only splices that are explicitly part of the system listing are permitted, complete with manufacturer installation instructions.
SLIDE 3 (EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTORS - EGC) Grounding the System:
Same Cable EGC: Fire-resistive cables installed in raceways requiring an equipment grounding conductor must use the same fire-resistive cable described in the system.
Alternative EGCs: If alternative grounding conductors are used, they must be explicitly listed with the system and marked with the system number.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Don't assume you can pull a standard bare copper ground wire alongside a fire-resistive cable unless the system listing specifically authorizes it. Ground continuity is vital for circuit survivability under fire stress!
