SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Enclosures & Replacement Panels (Part 3) ⚡
Bottom raceway spacing, closing unused breaker openings, and replacement panelboard rules—let's review Sections 408.5 through 408.9! 👇
SLIDE 2 (BOTTOM BUS ENCLOSURES & UNUSED OPENINGS) Maintaining Enclosure Integrity:
Conductor Spacing: Raceways entering the bottom of switchboards or floor-standing panels below busbars must maintain a minimum spacing of 200 mm (8 in.) for insulated busbars and 250 mm (10 in.) for noninsulated busbars.
Unused Openings: Unused openings for circuit breakers and switches must be closed using identified closures or filler plates to restore enclosure integrity.
SLIDE 3 (REPLACEMENT PANELBOARDS) Upgrading Existing Equipment:
Listed Replacements: Replacement panelboards listed for a specific existing enclosure catalog number or dimensions are permitted to maintain their SCCR.
Unlisted Replacements: If a replacement panelboard is not listed for the specific enclosure and available fault current exceeds 10,000 amperes, the completed work must be field labeled.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Never leave open breaker slots uncovered in a panelboard—always snap in listed filler plates to prevent accidental finger contact and contain potential internal arcs!
