SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Cable Routing Assemblies (Part 2 - Article 723) ⚡
Overhead yellow fiber troughs and plastic data raceways—how does the Code regulate cable routing assemblies in server rooms and telecom closets? Let's break down Section 723.30! 👇
SLIDE 2 (WHAT IS A CABLE ROUTING ASSEMBLY?) Channeling Data Overhead:
Purpose-Built Pathways: Listed channel systems designed specifically to support and route limited-energy cables (like optical fiber cords and patch cables) across data centers and telecom rooms.
Plenum vs. Riser: Assemblies installed in air-handling plenums must be listed as Plenum Cable Routing Assemblies; vertical runs penetrating floors require Riser listings.
SLIDE 3 (SUPPORT INTERVALS & JOINTS) Securing Horizontal and Vertical Runs:
Horizontal Support: Must be supported at intervals not exceeding 900 mm (3 ft) and at each end/joint (unless listed for wider spacing, up to 10 ft max).
Vertical Support: Vertical runs must be supported at intervals not exceeding 1.2 m (4 ft), with no more than one joint between support points.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Cable routing assemblies are designed for open overhead cable management—never install them inside fabricated environmental air ducts, and never enclose a cable routing assembly inside a metallic raceway!
