Sizing, Bends & Securing — Article 362 Complete!
SLIDE 1 — Sizing & Conductor Fill
📏 SIZE LIMITS (362.20)
Minimum: trade size ½. Maximum: trade size 2½ — notably SMALLER max than PVC's trade size 6.
🔢 Conductor fill (362.22): per Chapter 9, Table 1 — same standard percentage fill approach.
SLIDE 2 — Bends & Trimming
🔄 BENDS (362.24)
Manual bending permitted, no auxiliary equipment. Bend radius per Chapter 9, Table 2, "Other Bends" column. Max 360° total bends per run between pull points.
✂️ Trimming (362.28): cut ends trimmed INSIDE AND OUTSIDE to remove rough edges.
SLIDE 3 — Securing & Supporting (362.30)
🛠️ THE 3-FT RULE WITH FLEXIBILITY EXCEPTIONS
General: secured at intervals NOT exceeding 3 ft (900mm), PLUS within 3 ft of every termination.
3 Exceptions:
1️⃣ ≤6 ft from luminaire terminal for tap connections — no securing needed
2️⃣ ≤6 ft from last secure point, connecting within accessible ceiling — no securing needed
3️⃣ Fished, unbroken lengths in concealed/finished work where securing is impracticable
SLIDE 4 — Construction & Marking + Exam Question
🏗️ CONSTRUCTION (362.100)
Material must not exceed the ignitability/flammability/smoke/toxicity characteristics of rigid PVC. Prewired manufactured assemblies must be shippable in continuous coil/reel/carton lengths without damage.
🏷️ MARKING (362.120): every 10 ft (3m) per 110.21(A), including material type. Limited-smoke marking permitted where applicable. Prewired assemblies need tags identifying conductor type/size/quantity.
