⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Connections, Signage & Disconnects (Part 4) ⚡
Exothermic welding, metal penetration warning signs, lockable simultaneous disconnects, and controller switching rules—let's finish Article 426! 👇
SLIDE 2 (CONNECTIONS & MANDATORY SIGNAGE)
Secure Terminations and Safety Warnings:
Electrode Connections: Electrical connections within conductive pavement must use exothermic welding or listed irreversible crimp-type terminals installed with stainless steel hardware.
Warning Signage: Systems must feature permanent warning signs stating: "WARNING - RISK OF FIRE AND/OR ELECTRIC SHOCK. Conductive pavement installed. Do not penetrate pavement with any metal components.".
SLIDE 3 (DISCONNECTING MEANS & CONTROLLERS)
Simultaneous Disconnection:
Disconnect Requirements: All fixed outdoor deicing and snow-melting equipment must be provided with a means for simultaneous disconnection from all ungrounded conductors.
Indicating & Lockable: The disconnecting means must be of the indicating type and be lockable open in accordance with Section 110.25.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Never skip posting the mandatory "Do not penetrate pavement with any metal components" warning signs on conductive pavement installations—those signs protect future maintenance crews from fatal electric shock!
