⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Relocatable Structures (Part 3) ⚡
Temporary commercial trailers, industrial relocatable units, and feeder requirements—let's review Part II of Article 545 (Sections 545.20 through 545.24)! 👇
Feeders and Panelboards:
Feeder Requirements: Relocatable structures must be supplied by a feeder containing insulated, color-coded conductors, including an equipment grounding conductor (which can be uninsulated if part of a listed cable assembly).
Connected Structures: Where multiple relocatable structures are structurally connected to form a single unit with a factory-installed panelboard in each, each panelboard can be supplied by a separate feeder.
Industrial Identification: Identification rules in Section 225.37 are relaxed for connected structures on commercial/industrial sites maintained by qualified personnel, provided panelboards are clearly marked with their supply disconnect location.
Readily Accessible Controls:
Single Disconnect: A single disconnecting means (circuit breaker or switch/fuses) must be provided in a readily accessible location for each relocatable structure.
Distribution Equipment: Branch-circuit distribution equipment and OCPDs must be installed inside each relocatable structure with panelboards located in a readily accessible spot.
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Always verify that every relocatable structure features a clearly marked, readily accessible main disconnect so power can be cut instantly in an emergency!
