SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Where Can You Use Prefab Wiring? (Part 2 - Article 604) ⚡
Can you run manufactured wiring systems in air-handling plenums? Can a tapped cable extend into a hollow wall? Let's check out Section 604.10: uses permitted and restricted! 👇
SLIDE 2 (USES PERMITTED & PLENUMS) Where Prefab Harnesses Shine:
Accessible & Dry Locations: Permitted in accessible, dry locations and in ducts, plenums, and other air-handling spaces if specifically listed for the application.
Concealed Wall Taps: One end of a tapped cable is permitted to extend into hollow walls for direct termination at switches and outlet points.
Outdoor Use: Assemblies installed outdoors must be explicitly listed for outdoor locations.
SLIDE 3 (USES NOT PERMITTED) Where Prefab Fails Code:
Manufactured wiring systems are prohibited where limited by the applicable underlying article in Chapter 3 for the wiring method used in its construction.
You cannot use a prefab assembly in an environment or location that would violate standard AC or MC cable rules!
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Always check the manufacturer listing before running modular wiring harnesses into damp locations or drop-ceiling air plenums. If it's not rated for the space, it's an instant red tag!
