SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Class 2 & 3 Labeling & Paralleling (Part 2 - Article 721) ⚡
Can you tie multiple low-voltage power supplies together to increase output? What information must be stamped on your PoE switches? Let's check out Section 721.30! 👇
SLIDE 2 (THE PARALLELING BAN) Output Interconnection Rules:
No Unauthorized Paralleling: Class 2 or Class 3 power source output connections shall not have their outputs paralleled or otherwise interconnected unless the equipment is explicitly listed for such interconnection.
SLIDE 3 (MANDATORY NAMEPLATE & OUTPUT LABELING) What Must Be Marked on the Gear?
Durably Marked: Power supply equipment must clearly identify each Class 2 or Class 3 circuit.
Electrical Ratings: Limited power sources, IT, A/V, and communications power sources must feature a label indicating the maximum voltage and rated current output per conductor for each connection point (e.g., 52V @ 0.433A, 57V MAX for PoE systems).
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Clear labeling on low-voltage power sources and PoE switches prevents accidental overloading and speeds up troubleshooting during service calls and AHJ inspections. Never peel off those manufacturer specs!
