Slide 1 — Hook "How many disconnects are allowed, how they need to be grouped, and making sure tenants can actually reach theirs."
Slide 2 — 267.33 Maximum number
Each supply gets no more than SIX switches/breakers — whether mounted in a single enclosure, a group of separate enclosures, or switchgear. No more than 6 disconnects per supply grouped at any one location.
Single-pole units (one per phase) are allowed but count together as ONE disconnect for this 6-max rule.
NOT counted: disconnects used solely for ground-fault protection control circuits or power-operated disconnect control circuits, if part of listed equipment.
Slide 3 — 267.34 & 267.35
267.34(A): those 2-6 disconnects must be GROUPED, each marked for its load — except a fire-protection water pump disconnect, which can be remote from the group.
267.34(B): additional disconnects for fire pumps/emergency/standby systems must be installed sufficiently REMOTE from the normal group, to avoid losing normal and backup power simultaneously.
267.35: in multi-occupancy buildings, each occupant needs access to their own disconnect — UNLESS building management continuously supervises electrical service/maintenance, in which case access can be limited to authorized personnel.
Slide 4 — Quiz + CTA Q: "What's the maximum number of disconnects permitted per supply, grouped at one location, under 267.33?" A) 4 B) 6 C) 8 D) 10
✅ Answer: B — 267.33(A): no more than six.
