SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Grounding & Metal Bonding Near Water (Part 3) ⚡
How do you size equipment grounding conductors near retention basins and ponds? What metal parts must be bonded? Let's check out Part III of Article 682! 👇
Copper EGCs Sized for Safety:
Mandatory Insulated EGC: Metal boxes, cabinets, equipment frames, and receptacle grounds must be tied to an insulated copper EGC run with circuit conductors, sized per Table 250.122 but not smaller than 12 AWG.
Cord-Connected Gear: Cord-and-plug appliances must be grounded via an EGC in the cord and a grounding plug.
Eliminating Potential Differences:
Water-Contact Bonding: All metal parts in contact with the water, metal piping, tanks, and any non-current-carrying metal parts likely to become energized must be bonded to the grounding terminal in the electrical distribution equipment.
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Uninsulated EGCs are strictly prohibited in corrosive or conductive environments like storm water basins and sewage treatment ponds. Always pull a dedicated insulated copper EGC!
