SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Class 4 Loads & Receivers (Part 3 - Article 726) ⚡
What happens on the output side of a Class 4 power receiver? Does it count as a separately derived system? Section 726.122 defines output circuit rules. Let's break down the math! 👇
Feeding Branch Circuits & Feeders:
Separately Derived System: Outputs of a Class 4 receiver and power outputs of utilization equipment shall be considered a separately derived system if used as a supply for a feeder or branch circuit.
Standard Rule Application: Grounding and bonding requirements for separately derived systems kick in for those output circuits.
Feeding Class 2 / Class 3 Loads:
Article 725 Exception: If a Class 4 receiver converts energy down to supply limited-power circuit outputs (like Class 2 or 3 loads), it is permitted to meet Part II of Article 725 instead!
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Class 4 receivers act as power transformers or converters—taking high-voltage FMPS input and stepping it down or outputting standard branch circuits. Always identify where your SDS boundary starts!
