⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Immersion Safety & Nameplates (Part 4) ⚡
Hair dryer ALCI/IDCI protection, water heater temperature limits, and nameplate minimum circuit ampacity—let's finish Article 422! 👇
SLIDE 2 (IMMERSION PROTECTION & WATER HEATERS)
Preventing Electrocution and Overheating:
Hair Dryers & Hydromassages: Cord- and plug-connected hand-held hair dryers and free-standing hydromassage units must feature factory-installed immersion protection (ALCI, IDCI, or GFCI).
Water Heater Limits: Storage and instantaneous water heaters must be equipped with a temperature-limiting means in addition to the control thermostat, utilizing a trip-free manual reset or replacement element.
SLIDE 3 (NAMEPLATE MARKINGS)
Identifying Electrical Ratings:
Nameplate Details: Appliances must feature a nameplate giving the identifying name, voltage, and ampere (or watt) ratings.
Combination Loads: Appliances with motors and other loads must be marked with the minimum supply circuit conductor ampacity and the maximum rating of the circuit OCPD.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Always verify the minimum circuit ampacity and max OCPD markings on equipment nameplates before pulling your branch circuit wire—combination motor/heater loads have strict sizing rules!
